One of the premier and most sought after neighborhoods in Santa Barbara, the Upper East is situated east of State Street, above Valerio Street, and blends into the surrounding Mission Canyon area. This prestigious neighborhood boasts beautiful mountain and city views as well as views of the ocean from certain areas. The Santa Barbara Mission and the adjacent Rose Gardens and park are this neighborhood’s main landmarks. Many residents of the Upper East enjoy beautiful strolls to the Mission, picnics at the Rose Gardens and the peaceful tranquility of the area. Home to some of the most historic and exquisite architecture in the county, the streets of the Upper East are lined with Spanish-Colonial Revival style homes, as well as historic Victorian and craftsman homes. The Upper East is a long (about 30 minutes or so) but leisurely and safe walk to the downtown area, or it can be a quick bike ride or even quicker drive (about 5 minutes). It is an extremely convenient area to all that Santa Barbara has to offer and has lots of of Santa Barbara charm. Homes in this area tend to be much larger than those in surrounding areas and also offer more land.
