Downtown Santa Barbara is the true hub of the city. State Street, Santa Barbara’s main drag that divides the city east and west, is at the center of the downtown that stretches from Stearns Wharf to Uptown Santa Barbara. State Street is extremely walkable and is lined with some of the best shopping in Southern California, as well as many of the best restaurants in the city. Movie theatres, cafes, and business also line State Street and the city’s financial and arts districts are adjacent to the downtown area. The overall architecture is classic Spanish-style Santa Barbara, as well as traditional craftsman homes and historic Victorian homes. The Downtown area is home the the Museum of Contemporary Art, the historic El Paseo, and The Granada, Arlington, Lobero, and New Vic Theatres. There are beautiful parks, such as Alameda Park, and the local favorite, Alice Keck Park and Memorial Gardens. With many of the homes, condos and apartments being in short walking distance to all the downtown has to offer, it makes for a great community for young professionals and families alike.
